Chief Operations Officer: Michael Arbon B.Eng (Civil), Stanford University EMP 1999, FIE (Aust)
Michael joined the Board of Works (now Melbourne Water) in 1978 where he undertook a number of varied engineering and management positions over the next 17 years predominantly in planning and operations areas. He was the organizations youngest Executive when promoted to the SES in 1988, and became the Interim CEO of City West Water upon the Kennett Governments creation of the State Owned Corporations in 1995. In August 1995, Michael became a Senior Executive in the Transurban / Transfield-Obayashi Joint Venture (TOJV) initially as Environment and Authorities Manager where he played a key role in the resolution of the many early stage planning ,stakeholder and construction issues of the Melbourne City Link Project.
After joining TXU in 1997 and contributing significantly to growing the turnover of Enetech (Construction and Maintenance subsidiary) to $200 million in revenue per annum, he was responsible for Enetech’s sale to the largest Australian privately owned company Tenix in January 2000. Michael managed the transition of this business and the $130 million Alliance Contract TXU has entered into with Tenix for the subsequent 10 years. He was also Chairman of the Tenix/TXU Alliance Board for three years.
In July 2001, Michael took two part time roles, one continuing as manager of the Alliance Contract for TXU and the other as Project Director Water Recycling for Melbourne Water. He was the key manager accountable for achieving Melbourne Waters target of 20% recycling of effluent from its wastewater treatment plants at Werribee and Carrum by 2010.
Michael then joined ASX listed Engineering and Infrastructure company A J Lucas Group Limited in 2007 as General Manager for Water and Wastewater, reporting to the Executive Chairman. This role involved working with large National and International companies on projects utilising AJ Lucas’ core pipeline and infrastructure skills especially within the irrigation sector and helping meet water management needs within the Murray Darling Basin.
Michael was a Director of MBD Energy since 2006 until taking this appointment as Chief Operations Officer in August 2011.
