Emission Abatement

As the world’s largest exporter of coal (our number one export commodity) Australia has a particular interest in helping provide an emissions abatement technology that is effective and affordable.

For the most part, carbon emissions abatement solutions have tended to fall into three broad categories:

  1. Solutions that replace the combustion of carbon-based fuels with other energy sources;
  2. Solutions that attempt to make combustion cleaner and less carbon emissions intensive;
  3. Solutions that capture waste CO2 and sequester them in geological formations (CCS).

These solutions have limited capacity to assist the majority of the world’s coal and gas fired power stations, smelters, refineries, cement plants and incinerators - collectively the biggest contributors to steadily rising atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.

The Australian Government has announced Australia is to have a Carbon Tax as an initial step toward establishing an emissions trading scheme.

MBD Energy Limited Algal Synthesis technology provides stationary emitters with an effective and affordable means by which waste flue gas emissions can be captured and recycled to produce biomass suited to the manufacture of biofuels, nutrition and fertilisers.

The value of this approach has been underscored by the Australian Government’s principal advisor on climate change solutions, Professor Ross Garnaut in his paper “Transforming Rural Land Use” in which he says “the natural processes of biosequestration must be central to any ambitious global effort to meet targets for limiting temperature increase, and are the only known channel for actually reducing concentrations after emissions targets have been exceeded.”

Algal feed & food

Global demand for consumable proteins is soaring, creating increased demand for animal and fish feeds as feedstock to grow the animal proteins we enjoy consuming.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified diminishing food security as a major threat to mankind over coming decades.

Fuel briquettes

Algae biomass briquettes are made from algae biomass (either macro algae or micro algae and may be used as a replacement for fossil fuels such as oil or coal, and can be used to heat boilers in manufacturing plants, and also have applications in developing countries...

Bio Fuels

Biofuels are gaining increased attention, driven by factors such as oil price spikes, the need for increased energy security, concern over greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels, and government subsidies.

Plastics oil

Most of the world’s various forms of plastic are made from monomers and polymers derived from the production of petroleum and other liquid fuel products.
However a range of plastics can also be very successfully made from vegetable oil...
