Loy Yang Commodities Production Potential

Instead of mitigating captured CO2 as costly waste – MBD’s large scale CO2 to energy process efficiently harnesses CO2 to produce versatile feedstock that can be used to make valuable commodities. One hundred per cent of algal biomass we produce is sold as value added product.

The primary oil and meal products are sold into large downstream markets. MBD is developing specific products to place in these markets with the assistance of strategic intermediaries.

The company is working closely with strategic local and international partners to identify product and market opportunities. These strategic intermediaries include resource companies, international trading houses, downstream petroleum manufacturers and agribusiness, food, nutraceuticals and pharmaceutical companies.

The product range includes oil suited to the production of an array of bio-resins, plastics and transport fuels including large quantities of bio-diesel and nutritious animal feed.

MBD targets micro algae strains whose mass, on average, constitutes one third oil.

This oil is an ideal feedstock for refining into a broad range of biofuels including biodiesel, ethanol and aviation fuel.

Made from captured waste CO2 – these biofuels will help cut net atmospheric emissions.

A range of algae oils are rich in proteins and ideally suited human and animal nutrition – including long-chain fatty acids (i.e. Omega 3 and 6) also found in fish oil.

The remnant cellulose solids (husk) retained following oil extraction is suited to production of a wide range of commercial animal feeds.

Nutritious human foods can also be made from algae solids.

Used for direct energy combustion – dried briquette or pelletised algae biomass has a high Calorific Value (18) with an ash content of 4% - making it an ideal fuel for power generation. [Black coal calorific value = 20-23, ash 14% & brown coal, 8-10, ash: 1.5%]

MBD has made active carbon biochar that is ideal as a carbon based fertiliser or can be used as a charcoal-like combustible fuel.

Commercial bioremediation applications include heavy metals and nutrient recovery from contaminated water and water cleaning for re-use.
