Research and Development Facility
The Company has built a world class 5,000 m2 Micro-algae R&D and Pilot Plant Facility located at James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville, Queensland and exclusively benefits from all algae activities at JCU including leveraging from the University’s existing Macro-algae infrastructure.
The Facility is led by Professor Rocky De Nys and Associate Professor Kirsten Heimann – both renowned experts in their fields.
Our Micro-algae Facility is now the largest dedicated facility of its kind anywhere in the world. The centre provides MBD with the basis for all ongoing CO2 to Energy R&D work and will operate as the control centre for ongoing monitoring of MBD’s projects both in Australia and, in time, abroad.
The Company has entered into a strategic and exclusive relationship with JCU in the form of a five year Research and Development and Intellectual Property Agreement.
The agreement provides MBD with full access to JCU’s algae knowhow including access to JCU’s existing and developing library of micro and macro algae strains, while MBD retains ownership of all technology and IP development rights in relation to the systems that enable algae inoculation, production, harvesting, extraction and treatment.
