Research Capabilities
The research effort of MBD Energy Limited is based at the company’s research and development facility James Cook University (JCU), Townsville, Queensland. The facility is fully operational and has an established track record of delivering the results required for certainty of scaling-up CO2 to Energy Algal Synthesisers such as the 1 hectare installation currently under construction at Tarong Power Station in Queensland and those under development at Eraring Power Station and Loy Yang A Power Station.
MBD’s research capability is supported by technical and scientific teams; the latter drawing upon eminent James Cook University academics. Utilising an extensive network facilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories and a 5000 m2 field installation of Algal Synthesisers with full CO2 nutrient and harvest reticulation and monitoring infrastructure, the research capabilities of the MBD R&D Facility are currently lead world best practise.
MBD’s Research focus consists of two separate yet integrated streams of staff, technology and associated projects:
- those that are Micro-algae based; and
- those that are Macro-algae based.
Interestingly, MBD has found a high proportion of the projects currently under commercial development have greatly benefitted from a synergistic application of the research underpinning both technologies and approaches. The Company’s primary commercial focus, however, remains firmly on delivering the commercial-scale deployment of its micro-algae based technology.
